Non-union workers to build Brooklyn highrise

BFC Partners, led by Donald Capoccia, is building the Toren Condo, a Downtown Brooklyn highrise, with non-union construction workers. Union leaders say that these workers are being paid as little as $12 per hour for their work—a sharp drop from the union rate of $38 an hour. These nonunion laborers are also losing out on union-standard benefits. The tower’s 240 condos are slated to sell at prices ranging from $300,000 to more than $1 million. Capoccia is profiled in this month’s issue of The Real Deal.
