Manhattan broker took rent subsidies even after buying UWS condo, Hamptons home

A Manhattan broker was arrested yesterday for allegedly obtaining $79,000 in unwarranted rent subsidies from the New York City Housing Authority for her $400 a month Lower East Side apartment. Citing court documents, the New York Daily News reported that Nataliya Dyakovskaya has been collecting rent subsidies since 1987 even as she purchased on Upper West Side condominium for $700,000 and two East Hampton properties totaling $1.4 million in the interim.

Dyakovskaya came to the city with little money and was eligible for the subsidies when she began renting in the Vladeck Houses, at 688 Water Street, but eventually started her own realty firm, the Henry Madison Group. She touts a rags-to-riches story on her website but continued to collect the subsidies. The city’s Department of Investigation alleged Dyakovskaya improperly received $79,103 over the last five years to subsidize her rental.

Dyakovskaya confessed to have been living in her condo since the late 1990s. Her daughter lives in the Vladeck House apartment and pays the $400 per month rent. The realtor agreed to vacate the apartment in January and was released on $50,000 bond. [NYDN]
