Frisco ‘mini city’ gets $73M addition

Columbus Realty plans a 257-unit apartment complex for the development, which includes office and retail

The $10 billion Fields project has a new multifamily component.

North Texas-based apartment builder Columbus Realty plans to break ground in March for the first phase on a new rental community at North Fields, within the Fields development.

North Fields is a 175-acre site on US Highway 380, just North of the new PGA Headquarters, two championship golf courses, and the future Omni Hotel set to open in spring 2023.

The first phase of the $73 million multifamily project will include 620 units and is scheduled to open in late 2024, according to plans for the project filed with the state. North Fields is planned to include office and retail as well.

Long term residential plans within the 2500-acre Fields development call for over 3,500 single-family homes.

“We are not building a project — we are building a city,” developer Fehmi Karahan told the Dallas Morning News at the time of the announcement. “We will have at least 30,000 people living and working here.”

Not every Frisco project has been so lucky. The $2 billion, 112-acre Wade Park development in Jerry Jones’ $5 Billion Mile has been in developer purgatory since 2017 when it was first announced. A New York firm recently tried to reboot it under the name “Project X,” but there’s been no update since.
