Apple, Tesla supplier picks up big Plano campus

Delta Electronics plans a 400K-sq.ft. manufacturing, research, and development hub

A ’90s-era Plano tech campus could become a “landmark” tech hub.

Delta Electronics — a Taiwanese supplier of power components to Apple and Tesla — bought the former Alcatel USA complex off Plano Parkway near Coit Road, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Built in 1994, the 30-acre campus consists of two buildings located north of the Bush Turnpike.

Delta Electronics first established operations in the U.S. in 1980. Delta, which operates sales offices, research centers and manufacturing facilities across five continents, said that it purchased the Plano property to create “a landmark site for the R&D, manufacturing and sales of smart energy-saving products and solutions.”

“The complex, which accommodates facilities of over 400,000 square feet, is expected to create hundreds of jobs while aiming to support additional long-term local jobs across a broad ecosystem of suppliers and partners,” the firm said in an announcement about its purchase.

The seller, Austin-based real estate investor and developer Capital Commercial Investments, acquired the property in 2018. Capital’s business model is based around purchasing and repurposing large office campuses. In 2020, it picked up the former American Airlines headquarters complex south of DFW International Airport. And last year, it acquired the former J.C. Penney headquarters in Plano.

Kelvin Huang, president of Delta Electronics Americas Region, said he expects this new site to “operate 100 percent on renewable electricity by 2030.”
